How it works

A brown paper bag has a front panel, a top that folds over, two pleated sides and a flat bottom. These 80 lunch bag drawing ideas use all four, and the page opens on the 32 easy ones.

Use the fold

The top of a packed bag folds forward, and that flap is a second surface. Put eyes and paws on it and a cat is looking over the edge. Put an upper jaw on the flap and a lower jaw on the bag, and lifting the flap opens a crocodile's mouth.

Paper bag drawing ideas for puppets

The folded bottom of the bag is a puppet's mouth. Eyes and a nose go on the flap, and whatever is inside the mouth goes under it: a frog's curled tongue, a dragon's flame colors, a robot's speaker. Sixteen are here, from a duck's bill to a singing bird.

  • Draw while the bag is flat and empty, before the food goes in.
  • Keep a series in the same spot every day, so the only thing that moves is the story.
  • Slide a sheet of scrap paper inside the bag before you use a marker on it.

Questions and answers

What can I draw on a lunch bag?

A joke about what is inside: a sandwich in a cape, a cookie with a bite out pointing at whoever opens the bag, a forecast of 100 percent chance of crumbs. Or a drawing for the day: a test, a birthday, the first snow.

What are easy lunch bag drawing ideas?

Easy holds 32 that take only a few lines: two slices of bread hugging, a shark fin on the flap, a row of birds sitting on the fold, a rocket counting down to Friday.

How do you make a paper bag puppet?

Keep the bag flat with its folded bottom facing you. Draw the top of the face on that flap and the inside of the mouth under it. Slip a hand in, fingers into the flap, and open and close them.

What do you write on a lunch bag for a child?

A few words tied to the day. You trained for this, beside a brain lifting weights, on test day. We can do this, under a yawning face, on a Monday. Or turn me over, with a small heart on the bottom.
