How it works
A dollhouse is a toy house in miniature, with an open back or a front that opens to show the rooms. These 60 designs go part by part: outside walls, roof and doors, each room, then the furniture.

Outside first, then room by room
The outside is the part seen across a room, and it sets the house: Clapboard: level lines a finger apart on every outside wall, or Brick pattern on the ground floor, plain color upstairs. Inside, each room takes one job, such as Kitchen floor in black and white squares set on the slant.
Painted dollhouse ideas for the open side
The open side shows the cut edges of every wall and floor. Cut edges of the open back picked out in one accent color paints only those. The themed houses change the whole building: Fire station: tall red doors, a gold bell under the peak.
Questions and answers
What paint do you use on a dollhouse?
Acrylic paint is fast-drying, and most kinds are water-based and become water-resistant when dry. Whether a paint or sealer suits a toy that children handle is on its label: we do not test paints.
Should I paint a dollhouse before putting it together?
That depends on the kit, so follow its instructions. The room designs here are flat jobs on single walls and floors, such as Hallway wallpaper in narrow stripes, and are written so they suit a loose panel or a built room.
Are there doll house painting ideas for the furniture?
Twelve. Stove with four burner rings and a row of dials and Bathtub with gold feet and bubbles painted inside turn plain blocks into pieces, and Set of chairs, each seat a different color needs four colors and one brush.
Can a dollhouse be painted as something else?
Yes: twelve designs are themed houses, among them Bakery: pink striped awning, three loaves on the sill, Castle: stone blocks, a battlement line under the roof and Stable: plank walls, a half door, hay painted on the floor.
