Questions and answers

What is the easiest sunflower to paint?

Petals pressed with the side of a flat brush, one press each: load, press, lift. Easy first sunflowers, under More filters, holds 16, seven of them from Loose and quick.

What colors do I need to paint a sunflower?

Cadmium yellow is in 52 of the 60 palettes, burnt umber in 34 and sap green in 28. Add yellow ochre for petals in shadow and lemon yellow for the brightest tips.

How do you paint the center of a sunflower?

Stipple it in rings, darkest at the rim. The center is a disk of many small flowers set in spirals, so dots in curved rows read as real. Sunflower center from edge to edge, petals only in the corners is all center.

Which way do sunflowers face in a field painting?

All the same way. Open sunflower heads stay pointing roughly east all day, and only the young buds track the sun. Field of sunflowers seen from behind at sunrise, every head turned east paints exactly that.
