How this list was compiled

Original list written for Draw This Next on 2026-10-01: 60 card and picture ideas for a school principal, each with a layout and, for most, the words that go in the drawing. Built from what a principal has and a classroom teacher does not: the office, the announcements, the keys, a card the whole class signs. No real school or person is named, and no observance is named or dated. Read beside drawings-for-teachers and birthday-drawing-ideas; an idea either of them holds was left out or replaced: no signature tree, no class of stick figures, no subject pun, no chair by the sea. Everyday school subjects (a door, a bus, a map, footprints) are on more than one list, as different drawings. No item repeats or nearly repeats a title from any other list on the site (checked by script). No facts are stated. Licence: own work

How it works

The page opens on the Birthday group: things to draw for your principal's birthday, built from the office, the bell and the morning announcements. Four more groups cover a class card, the school itself, a thank-you and a goodbye.

Draw what only a principal has

A teacher has a classroom; a principal has the whole building. These ideas use the swivel chair, the keys, the two-way radio and the school sign out front. The hall clock with its hands at cake o'clock swaps the 12 for a slice of cake.

One card from the whole class

From the whole class holds cards that everybody adds to. In A rail of backpacks on hooks, each one signed, each student draws their own backpack. A quilt card with one square from each student gives everyone a square to fill.

  • Add the principal's name yourself. No idea uses a real name or a real school.
