Cute things to draw on a card

Round animals do most of the work: a hedgehog in a scarf with a hot water bottle, a duckling following its parent, a bear hugging a pillow. Put the animal low on the front and leave the top third for words.

Let the inside finish the joke

Many fronts set something up and the inside pays it off: a bunch of grapes, then thanks a bunch; a cloud mid-sneeze, then the same cloud smiling. Draw the inside first so you know where the front leads.

  • Write the inside words in pencil first. If they run long, the drawing can shrink.
  • Use thick card, or two sheets glued back to back, so markers do not show through.
