How this list was compiled: Original list written for Draw This Next on 2026-10-02: 60 repeat patterns made of one small cute motif, in five kinds (hearts and bows; stars, moons and clouds; sweets and treats; tiny animals; checks, dots and scallops), each hint naming the strokes of the motif and how the repeat is laid out (rows, staggered rows like bricks, stripes, a diagonal, a scatter). Some are also marked easy. Every item is a repeat, never a single motif, and there are no flower repeats and no fruit repeats. No pattern repeats a title from another list on this site. Four ways to lay out a repeat

Rows line the motif up like a grid. Staggered rows shift every second row half a step, the way bricks sit. Stripes run one motif down a band, and a scatter turns each one a new way with even gaps. Pencil a light grid for rows; a scatter needs none.

The easy ones first

Easy marks the simplest motifs, such as Small bows in rows on a ground of pin dots and Polka dots in two sizes, small ones in the gaps.

  • Draw one motif in each corner of the page first, then fill between them, so the spacing holds.
  • Two pen colors are enough: one for the motif, one for the dots or dashes between.

Questions and answers

What makes a pattern cute?

A small rounded motif with space round it. Bows, clouds, donuts and bunny heads read at a glance, and repeating one of them keeps the page light.

Press once, then choose Easy in the list under the button. Wrapped candies tilted left and right in rows and Crescents in rows, every other one facing left need one shape drawn again and again.

Where can I use a pattern like this?

On a notebook cover, wrapping paper, a card border or the background of a journal page. Draw it small in a ruled box first to test the spacing.

How is this different from the pattern drawing ideas?

Pattern drawing ideas lists named patterns from cloth, tiles and nature, such as houndstooth and herringbone. This page is repeats of one small cute motif, sorted by motif.
