Outline hearts 15

  • A 3D heart with a second outline and joined edges Draw a heart, then the same heart a little down and to the right. Join the matching curves and shade the side.
  • A brush-style heart from two teardrop strokes Pull one teardrop from top left down to the point. Mirror it from the top right. Leave the gap between open.
  • A dotted heart: no line, only a ring of pen dots Pencil the heart lightly. Dot along the line, starting at the dip and the point so those two land on a dot.
  • A double-outline heart, the second line a hair outside Draw a heart, then trace round it a pen-width away. Keep the gap even, most of all at the dip and the point.
  • A heart from a V with a bump on each arm Draw a V. From each tip, curve a bump up and back down into the middle so the two meet in a dip.
  • A heart from two leaning ovals that overlap at the foot Tilt two ovals toward each other so they cross at the bottom. Erase the lines inside the shape.

Outline hearts, continued

  • A heart sketched inside a ruled triangle, lobes above Rule a triangle pointing down. Draw a half circle on each half of its top edge and firm up the two sides.
  • A heart whose outline winds on into an inner spiral Draw the outline, and when the line gets back to the dip keep going, winding inside until it runs out of room.
  • A heart with a curled tail where the point should be Draw the two lobes, bring one side down toward the point and finish it with a small curl off to one side.
  • A lopsided heart with one lobe bigger than the other Draw the left lobe round and full, the right one smaller and lower. Bring both sides down to a point off center.
  • A ribbon heart: a flat band folded twice into lobes Draw the outline as two lines a band-width apart. At the dip and the point, show the band folding over itself.
  • A single-stroke heart that overshoots its own point Start at the dip, swing round one lobe, down past the point, then back up round the other lobe to the start.
  • A white heart: a bold outline with bare paper inside Draw the outline once, then go over it so the line is thick. Leave the inside empty: the paper is the white.
  • An angular heart from eight straight sides, no curves Two short sides make the dip, two make each lobe top, and two long ones run down to the point. Rule them all.
  • An inflated heart with a square glint on one lobe Round every curve as if it were inflated. Add a small curved square of shine high on one lobe, a crease at the dip.

Heart emblems 15

  • A heart between two sprays of laurel Curve a spray of paired leaves up each side of the heart so the two tips nearly meet above the dip.
  • A heart crest: crown above, wings beside, banner below Start with the heart. Sit a crown in the dip, spread a wing from each side and curve a banner under the point.
  • A heart on a shield with a scroll underneath A shield with a flat top and a pointed foot, the heart in the middle, and a curled strip of scroll below.
  • A heart tied up like a parcel, its bow set to one side One band across and one band down, crossing left of center. A bow with two loops and two tails where they meet.
  • A heart whose outline breaks into a zigzag pulse Open the outline at one side. Run a level line out of the gap with one tall spike and one short dip in it.
  • A heart with a banner across for a name Draw a ribbon band over the middle with a fold and a forked tail at each end. Erase the heart lines under it.
  • A heart with a bow tied at the dip Two loops and a knot sitting in the dip, the two ribbon tails trailing down over the lobes.
  • A heart with a small arched door and a round knob Low in the middle draw an arch with a line down one side for the hinge, a dot knob and two steps up to it.
  • A heart with a small crown tipped on one lobe Three zigzag points on a short band, set at a tilt on the left lobe. A dot on each point.
  • A heart with a sprout growing from the dip A short stem rises out of the dip and opens into two small leaves. One more leaf is still curled.
  • A heart with a stitched seam and one button Run a line of short dashes just inside the outline, then sew a four-hole button onto one lobe.
  • A heart with a stubby wing of three teardrops each side From each side of the heart draw three long teardrops fanning up and out, the top feather the longest.
  • A heart with an arrow: feathers one side, tip the other Rule one slanted line that stops at the heart's edge and starts again beyond it. Add a tip and two feather Vs.
  • A heart with rays on every side, like a little sun Short straight strokes all the way round, a pen-width off the outline, long and short in turn.
  • Two arrows crossed behind a heart, feathers up Rule an X. Draw the heart over the crossing and erase the lines inside it. Tips at the bottom, feathers on top.

Filled and patterned hearts 15

  • A checkerboard heart ruled on a slanted grid Rule slanted lines both ways across the heart to make diamonds. Fill alternate diamonds, part ones included.
  • A half-shaded heart, split from dip to point Rule a line from the dip to the point. Fill one half solid or with close hatching and leave the other bare.
  • A heart colored in with one back-and-forth scribble Start at a lobe and scribble side to side down to the point without lifting. Let it wander over the outline.
  • A heart filled with rings that echo its outline inward Draw a smaller heart inside the first, then a smaller one inside that, until the middle is a dot.
  • A heart filled with stripes that fan from the point Rule every stripe from the bottom point up to the outline, like the ribs of an open fan. Fill every other one.
  • A heart made of tiny hearts packed inside its outline Pencil the big heart. Fill it with small ones tipped every way, edge ones first, then erase the pencil line.
  • A heart quartered by a cross, a new pattern in each part Cross the heart with one upright and one level line. Fill the four parts with dots, stripes, checks and waves.
  • A heart shaded from dark at the point to bare lobes Hatch closely at the point and space the lines wider as you climb, until the top of each lobe is left bare.
  • A heart with a spiral in each lobe, meeting above the point Wind a spiral out from the middle of each lobe. Let the two outer coils run down and join as the point.
  • A heart with dotted lobes and a solid point Rule a level line a third of the way up. Fill below it solid and scatter dots above, thinning toward the top.
  • A lace heart with a scalloped edge and a net of holes Edge the heart in tiny half circles. Inside, draw a net of crossed lines and a small ring at every crossing.
  • A lattice heart of crossed bands with shaded gaps Draw slanted bands both ways across the heart. Where they cross, break one band so it passes behind the other.
  • A mosaic heart of small uneven tiles Fill the heart with four-sided tiles that never quite touch. Follow the outline with the first row, then work in.
  • A polka heart, every dot under a gap in the row above Draw a row of dots across the widest part, then rows above and below with each dot under a gap.
  • A solid heart with one bare shine mark Outline the heart and a small bean shape high on the left lobe. Fill everything except the bean.

Chains, borders, scatters 15

  • A border of hearts, upright and upside down in turn Fit each upside-down heart between two upright ones so its point fills the space above their lobes.
  • A chain of hearts on their sides, point into dip Turn each heart on its side so its point slots into the dip of the next. Keep going to the page edge.
  • A corner cluster of three hearts in three sizes Set the biggest heart nearest the corner, tilted in. Tuck the middle one along one edge, the smallest along the other.
  • A divider line with one heart set in a gap Rule a line, leave a gap in the middle and set one small heart in it. A dot on each side of the heart.
  • A full frame of hearts with a larger one at each corner Pencil a rectangle. Put a big tilted heart on each corner, then space small ones evenly along the four sides.
  • A heart row that rounds a page corner on an overlapped pair Run a row of hearts along the top. At the corner, overlap two hearts at right angles, then carry on down the side.
  • A ring of small hearts with their points to the middle Pencil a circle. Set hearts round it like numbers on a clock, every point aimed at the center.
  • A row of hearts joined lobe to lobe like paper dolls Draw one heart, then repeat it with the lobes touching side to side, like a row cut from folded paper.
  • A scatter of hearts tilted every way, none touching Mix three sizes. Turn each heart to a new angle and keep a clear gap round every one, right to the page edge.
  • A spiral of hearts growing as it winds outward Pencil a spiral. Start with a tiny heart in the middle and make each one a little bigger as you follow the line.
  • A tiling of hearts, upright and inverted, with no gaps Pencil a row of triangles, up then down. Curve each into a heart so one heart's lobe is its neighbor's dent.
  • A trail of hearts shrinking round a curve Pencil a curve like a comma. Begin with a large heart at the head and shrink each one to a dot at the tail.
  • A wavy stem with a heart for every leaf Draw a waving line. At each bend add a short stalk with a heart on it, point toward the stem.
  • Hearts hung by their dips along a drooping line Draw a sagging line. Fix small hearts to it by their dips, tilting each one to follow the curve.
  • Hearts rising like bubbles, smaller as they climb Start with a heart the size of a pea at the bottom. Each one above it is smaller and drifts a little sideways.

How this list was compiled: Original list written for Draw This Next on 2026-10-02: 60 ways to doodle the heart symbol, in four kinds (outline hearts, heart emblems, filled and patterned hearts, chains, borders and scatters), each marked easy, medium or hard, with the shapes it is built from and the first strokes to draw. Kept apart from heart-drawing-ideas, whose hearts are full drawings (anatomical, a locket, a broken heart, a heart built from things), and from the Valentine lists; no item repeats a title from any other list on the site. How it works

A heart doodle is two lobes and a point, and there are dozens of ways to get there. Each of the 60 here names the shapes it is built from and gives the first strokes.

A white heart doodle is all outline

Draw the outline once, go over it so the line is bold and leave the inside bare: the paper is the white. A double-outline heart and a dotted heart stay white the same way.

A beautiful heart doodle has matching lobes

To match the two sides, start from A heart sketched inside a ruled triangle, lobes above. Then dress it with a banner, a small crown or rays, or fill it with stripes that fan from the point.

  • Turn the page upside down to check a heart. A lopsided lobe shows at once.
  • For a row of hearts, pencil a top and a bottom line first so every heart matches in height.

Questions and answers

What is the easiest heart to doodle?

A heart from a V with a bump on each arm. Draw a V, then curve a bump up from each tip and back down into the middle. Easy, under More filters, holds 20 like it.

How do I draw a heart with an arrow?

Rule one slanted line that stops at the edge of the heart and starts again on the far side. Add a tip at one end and two feather Vs at the other.

What can I use heart doodles for?

Page edges and cards. Chains, borders, scatters holds 15, such as a divider line with one heart set in a gap, hearts rising like bubbles and a full frame with a larger heart at each corner.

How are these different from the heart drawing ideas?

Those are full drawings: an anatomical heart, a locket, a heart built from things. These are the heart symbol alone, drawn small in pen.
