How this list was compiled: Original list written for Draw This Next on 2026-10-02: 60 cat doodles in four kinds (faces and heads, whole cats, black and patterned cats, kittens), each marked easy, medium or hard, with the shapes it is built from and the first strokes to draw. Kept apart from cat-drawing-ideas, which draws real cats in a pose, a named coat or a breed outline, and from the three cats on animal-doodles; no item repeats a title from any other list on the site. How it works

A cat doodle is a few plain shapes: a circle and two triangles, a wedge, a teardrop with a J for a tail. Every doodle here names its shapes and gives the first strokes.

A cat face doodle or a cat head doodle first

Faces are the quickest start. A cat face from a capital M on a wide U takes two strokes, and a cat of whiskers only has no outline at all. Keep the eyes low on the head and the ears far apart.

A black cat doodle is all fill

Fill does the work. A stencil black cat is three filled shapes, head, body and tail, with thin gaps left bare, and An ink blot turned into a black cat with two ear ticks starts from a thumbnail of ink. The same kind holds striped, dotted and checkerboard cats, all made of marks a pen can repeat.

  • Draw the ears first. Once two triangles are down, almost any shape under them reads as a cat.
  • Whiskers go on last, in single quick strokes, three a side.
