How it works
A rose doodle starts from a coil, a triangle or a teardrop, not from a real bloom. Each of the 48 here names its starting shape and gives the first strokes.

Start with a bud
Buds and spirals are the quickest: A rosebud grown from a small number 6 is three wraps round a numeral. Open roses build outward, as in A rose built outward from a small triangle, where each new petal covers a corner.
Add the stem last
A rose leaf is several toothed leaflets on one stalk, and the thorns are curved hooks. Stems, leaves and thorns is the kind to practice both.
- Keep the middle tight and the outer petals loose: small arcs inside, wide ones outside.
- Leave small gaps where petals overlap, so the lines do not all close.
Questions and answers
How do I doodle a rose?
Draw a teardrop with its point up and wrap three pointed sepals round the lower half, like fingers holding an egg. That is the first doodle on the list, a rosebud held in a cup of sepals.
What is the easiest rose doodle?
A rose from a circle with a Y drawn inside: draw the circle and the Y, then one curve across each arm. Easy, under More filters, holds 16, four in each kind.
What are some cute roses to draw?
A lollipop rose on one long line with two leaves, A rosebud grown from a small number 6 and A rose inside a diamond with a leaf at each side point. Small and round keeps a rose cute.
Where can I use a rose doodle?
Roses in a design holds 12 placements: a corner spray, a row of roses as a border, a divider with a thorned stem running each way and a tall bookmark.
