How it works

A doodle is small: a leaf, an acorn, a mug of cocoa, a strip along the page edge. Each of these 60 comes with the strokes that start it. Pick a group to narrow the deal.

Easy fall doodles to begin with

Easy holds 23 that take a few lines each. A pine cone made of rows of tiny U shapes needs no shading, and the maple leaf is one zigzag out and back. Simple fall doodles like these read best at thumbnail size.

Borders, corners and cards

Borders and corners holds 14 page edges, from a garland of leaves on a wavy string to a divider line of berries on a stem. For a card, put one motif in the middle and a border round it. Autumn doodles also suit a gift tag or an envelope flap.

  • Pencil it at thumbnail size first. Ink only the lines you like, then rub the pencil out.
  • Keep a page to three colours, such as rust, mustard and brown, and any mix of motifs looks planned.

Questions and answers

What are some cute fall doodles?

Press once, then choose Cute in the list under the button for 18. An owl made of one oval and two circles is the quickest; a mouse asleep in a walnut shell takes longer. A face is two dots and a small curve, nothing more.

Are Halloween doodles on this list?

No. This list keeps to the season: leaves, acorns, mushrooms, mugs and scarves. Pumpkins appear only as a crop. Halloween and Thanksgiving have lists of their own.

How do I fill a journal page with doodles?

Take one border, one heading banner and three small motifs from these fall doodle ideas. Draw the border, write the heading, then fill the gaps. A whole page of scattered leaves, no two alike, works as a background on its own.
