How this list was compiled: Own work, written for Draw This Next on 2026-10-08: palettes of five or six colors for a lit dance floor, sorted by what they show (a mirror ball in silver and white light; dance floor squares; magenta, purple and gold; sunset orange and brown). Every palette, name, color word, hex code and part is our own; none is taken from a film, a song, a record sleeve, a club, a performer or a published palette, and the page says nothing about a decade. How a strip is ordered: the dark of the room comes first, each color is named for its part, and the name gives the color it carries and that dark. Our own tests, not a standard: the first color is the darkest of its strip, and the color the name carries contrasts with it by 3 to 1 or more (the WCAG contrast ratio formula, https://www.w3.org/WAI/WCAG21/Understanding/contrast-minimum.html, used as our own threshold); a mirror ball strip holds silver and white or pale gray; a dance floor strip holds three or more strong colors; a Magenta, purple and gold strip holds magenta or hot pink, a purple, and gold or amber; a Sunset orange and brown strip holds an orange and a brown and no cool color; no two colors of a palette are closer than 8 in CIE Lab; no two palettes share four codes. Facts in the page copy, checked on 2026-10-08 against English Wikipedia (text under CC BY-SA 4.0). Disco ball, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disco_ball: a disco ball (other names: mirror ball, glitter ball) is a near-sphere whose surface is made up of facets by the hundred or thousand, each with a mirrored surface; lit by spotlights, it sends dots of light turning across the room's walls. Illuminated dance floor, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illuminated_dance_floor: a floor whose panels or tiles light up in various colors; early ones were translucent colored glass panels lit from below by bulbs. Color names are plain English words with no paint maker, pencil brand or color-matching system, and one word is one code everywhere on this list. Checked on 2026-10-08: every code is #RRGGBB, each color word fits the hue and lightness of its code, no palette, name or line repeats, and no palette is on another palette list of this site or of its sister sites. The hex codes are for a screen; with paint or pencils, take the nearest color. Licence: own work
How it works
A disco color palette is mostly dark with a few bright lights on it. Each strip here names every color for its part: ceiling, facets, beams, floor squares, sequins.

Four kinds of disco palette
The menu under the button keeps to one. Mirror ball silver and white light has silver and a white in every strip, on a dark such as black, navy or charcoal. Dance floor squares sets three or more strong colors in a dark grid. Magenta, purple and gold is the glitter-curtain look. Sunset orange and brown has no cool color at all: Shag rug is orange on dark brown, with mustard, tan and cream.
The dark comes first
Every strip starts with its darkest color, and its name gives the color that matters most on it: Glitter ball is silver on black, Laser fan magenta on black. Let that dark fill most of the picture and keep the lights small.
