How this list was compiled: Own work, written for Draw This Next on 2026-10-08: palettes of five colors in four looks that go by the name 60s (flower brights, mod black and white with one color, kitchen pastels, poster swirls). Every palette, name, color word, hex code and line is our own; no palette is taken from a poster, a record sleeve, a film, a brand or a published palette, and the page states nothing about the decade beyond the names of its four groups. How a strip is ordered: the background comes first and the accent last; a mod strip is a light neutral, black, a gray, then the one color and a second step of the same color, lighter or darker. Our own tests, not a standard: the second color reaches a contrast of 1.5 to 1 against the background (the WCAG contrast ratio formula, https://www.w3.org/WAI/WCAG21/Understanding/contrast-minimum.html, used as our own threshold); the two steps of a mod color lie within 40 degrees of hue; no two colors of a palette are closer than 10 in CIE Lab; no two palettes share four codes. Color names are plain English words with no paint maker, pencil brand or color-matching system, and one word is one code everywhere on this list. Checked on 2026-10-08: every code is #RRGGBB, each color word fits the hue and lightness of its code, no palette, name or line repeats, and no palette is on another palette list of this site or of its sister sites. The hex codes are for a screen; with paint or pencils, take the nearest color. Licence: own work
How it works
This page deals one 60s color palette at a time. Flower brights, kitchen pastels and poster swirls run from a background to an accent; a mod strip is black, white and one color.

Flowers, kitchens and a groovy color palette
Flower brights draw on yellow, orange, pink, lime and green. Kitchen pastels draw on aqua, mint, butter yellow, peach and pale pink, with cream, white or silver. For a groovy color palette, choose Poster swirls in the menu under the button: purple against orange, magenta against lime, red against turquoise.
Mod: black, white and one color
A mod strip is white or cream, black, a gray, then one color and a second step of it, lighter or darker: red with dark red, orange with peach, cobalt blue with baby blue. Put the color on one shape and leave the rest black and white.
Questions and answers
What colors are in a 1960s color palette?
Apart from white, cream, black and silver, the colors used most on this list are orange #F77F11, yellow #FFD400 and turquoise #1FBDB0, then green, red and purple. Calling them 1960s colors is our choice.
What is a retro 60s color palette for a poster?
Try Concert poster: a purple background, then orange, yellow and hot pink, with lime as the accent. Sunburst sets orange, yellow and purple on red, with turquoise as the accent.
Where do the codes of a 60s colour palette come from?
They are our own: each code is there for its look, and its color word fits the code. No strip copies a poster, a dress or a product of the 1960s.
