How this list was compiled: Own work, written for Draw This Next on 2026-10-08: palettes of five colors that set pastels against black or charcoal, sorted by the pastel (pink and charcoal, lilac and gray, mint and bone, several pastels with black). Every palette, name, color word, hex code and part is our own; none is taken from a shop, a brand, a character or a published palette. Pastel goth is read here as pastel colors set against black or charcoal; that reading is ours, and the page states nothing else about the style. How a strip is ordered: the dark comes first, then the pastel the name carries, and each color is named for its part. Our own tests, not a standard: the first color is the darkest of its strip; a pastel has an HSL lightness of 68 percent or more; the named pastel contrasts with the dark by 7 to 1 or more (the WCAG contrast ratio formula, https://www.w3.org/WAI/WCAG21/Understanding/contrast-minimum.html, used as our own threshold); a Pink and charcoal strip starts with charcoal, a Lilac and gray strip holds a gray or a silver, a Mint and bone strip holds bone; a Pastels with black strip starts with black and holds pastels of two or more hues, 40 degrees or more apart on the color wheel, each 7 to 1 or more against the black; no two colors of a palette are closer than 8 in CIE Lab; no two palettes share four codes. Color names are plain English words with no paint maker, pencil brand or color-matching system, and one word is one code everywhere on this list. Checked on 2026-10-08: every code is #RRGGBB, each color word fits the hue and lightness of its code, no palette, name or line repeats, and no palette is on another palette list of this site or of its sister sites. The hex codes are for a screen; with paint or pencils, take the nearest color. Licence: own work
How it works
Each pastel goth color palette here names its colors for the parts of one small picture: a ribbon choker, a ghost plush, a cat on the sill. Its pastel always reads clearly on its dark, most often black or charcoal.

What a pastel goth colors palette holds
The dark comes first and the pastel second. The other three finish the picture: in Ribbon choker, a charcoal ribbon, a pink bow, pale pink lace, a silver buckle and a white pearl.
Sorted by the pastel
The menu under the button keeps to one group. Pink and charcoal starts every strip with charcoal and mostly adds grays, with burgundy, plum or hot pink for depth. Lilac and gray has a gray or a silver in every strip, sometimes with violet or purple. Mint and bone pairs mint with bone, a warm off-white. Pastels with black sets two or more pastels of different hues on black, as in Rainbow bats.

Give the dark the outlines and the largest shape, fill the next largest with the pastel, and keep the other three for small parts. For bats, ghosts and black cats to draw, see Halloween drawing ideas.
