Faces 12

  • A black pug where only the eyes and tongue show Black is one of the two usual pug colors. Fill the head dark and leave two eye rings and a tongue.
  • A pug asleep with one cheek squashed flat Flatten one side of the head against a ground line. Eyes are two short dashes, the mouth pushed off-center.
  • A pug begging with huge wet eyes, two highlights in each Each eye is a big dark circle with one large and one small white dot. Lift the inner brows.
  • A pug head-on with three wrinkle arcs over its nose Wrinkles do the work. A wide circle, a flat oval muzzle low down, a small nose on top, three arcs above it.
  • A pug in the middle of a huge yawn, tongue curled Open the mouth into a tall oval and curl the tongue inside. The wrinkles bunch up into short lines.
  • A pug in three-quarter view, muzzle barely past the cheek A pug's muzzle is blunt and very short, so only a small bump breaks the curve of the far cheek.

Faces, continued

  • A pug looking straight up at you from the floor Seen from above: forehead widest, eyes near the top edge, the body shrinking to a small oval below.
  • A pug mid-sneeze with its whole face scrunched inward Pull every line toward the nose: eyes as chevrons, wrinkles as rays, ears thrown forward.
  • A pug side on: forehead, nose and chin in one line Draw forehead, nose and chin on almost one upright line. The eye sits far forward, near the edge.
  • A pug with its head cocked, one ear flipped back The tilt is the cute part. Lean the whole circle to one side, then turn one ear triangle inside out.
  • A pug with its tongue out to one side Slant the mouth line and drop a small U from one corner. Two shut-eye curves make it happier.
  • A pug with small rose ears folded against its head Rose is one of the two pug ear shapes: smaller, with the front edge folded against the side of the head.

  • A fawn pug from above with the dark line down its back A fawn pug can show a black trace from the back of the head to the tail. Keep that line narrow.
  • A pug asleep in a ring inside a round bed Two circles, one inside the other. The pug is the inner ring, with its face tucked against its own hip.
  • A pug from behind with its tail curled tight over one hip The tail usually curls tight over the hip. Draw a wide rump, two ear tips above it, a spiral off-center.

  • A pug sitting like a pear with its back feet poking forward A wide-bottomed pear, a head on top, two ovals for feet at the base and two posts for front legs.
  • A pug sploot: belly down, both hind feet pointing backward Seen from above it is a pear with two small feet at the wide end and the curled tail between them.

  • A kawaii pug as a round cushion with stitched seams A plump circle with a dashed seam line inside the edge, a sewn-on mask and two button eyes.
  • A kawaii pug as one circle with a dark mask patch One circle. Low in the middle, an oval filled dark for the mask. Dot eyes sit outside it.
  • A kawaii pug face: two dots far apart, low on the circle Low, wide eyes read as a baby face. Put them below the halfway line, with a tiny mouth between.

  • A row of five pug heads, each in a different mood Same circle and mask five times. Change only the brows and the mouth: glad, sleepy, grumpy, shocked, shy.
  • Nine tiny kawaii pugs in a three-by-three grid Rule a three-by-three grid. One pug in each square, each with a thick outline and a white border.

Pugs with something 12

  • A pug in a teacup with its front paws over the rim A cup is a half circle with a handle. Sit the head on the rim and let two small paws droop over it.
  • A pug on a cushion at a rainy window, seen from behind Window frame first, then slanting rain. The pug is a dark loaf on the sill, seen from behind.
  • A pug on a park bench with trees and a path behind it Bench slats in perspective first. Keep the trees pale and small so the pug stays the darkest thing.

The breed features named in the hints (a wrinkly, short-muzzled face; a blunt, very short muzzle; a compact, square body; a tail that curls tightly over the hip; fawn or black as the usual colors; a black trace along the back of a fawn coat; rose and button ears) were checked on 2026-10-02 against the English Wikipedia article Pug (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pug), free to reuse under CC BY-SA 4.0. What makes a pug look like a pug

Three features carry the breed: a wrinkly, short-muzzled face, a compact square body and a tail that curls tightly over the hip. Keep the muzzle a flat oval, set the eyes big, low and wide apart, and the dog reads as a pug.

Kawaii pugs start as one circle

The kawaii and cartoon kind strips the dog down to a circle, a dark mask patch and two dots. The plainest is a kawaii pug face, two dots far apart and low on the circle. Blush ovals, sparkle eyes and a head bigger than the body come after.

  • Draw the tail last, as a small spiral sitting on the hip, not at the end of the back.
  • Shade the mask before you add the wrinkles, so the wrinkle lines stay sharp on top.
