How this list was compiled: Own work, written for Draw This Next on 2026-10-14: palettes of five colors of a farm, in four kinds (barn, field, sky, produce). Every palette, name, color word, hex code and part is our own choice; nothing is sampled from a photograph, and no farm, brand, maker of machinery or product is named. How a strip is ordered: each color is named for its part of one small scene, and the name carries two of the colors; a Sky strip reads from the top of the sky down to the ground. Our own tests, not a standard: every Barn strip holds barn red and a white, a cream or a gray; a Field strip holds four or more colors of the land (an HSL hue from 14 to 150 degrees: soil browns, straw yellows and crop greens); in a Sky strip the first two colors are sky or cloud and the last is the land; a Produce strip names one color for what holds the produce (a crate, a basket, a cart, a sack, a pail, a box or a stand). The facts in the page copy, checked on 2026-10-14 against English Wikipedia (text under CC BY-SA 4.0): Barn, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barn (the caption of its picture of a red New England barn: the traditional color is the result of iron oxide stain applied to protect the wood from UV damage); Rust, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rust (rust is an iron oxide, usually reddish-brown); Hay, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hay (hay is grass, legumes or other herbaceous plants that have been cut and dried to be stored for use as animal fodder; good-quality hay is green; straw is used mainly for animal bedding); Straw, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straw (the dry stalks of cereal plants after the grain and chaff have been removed). The codes for barn red, straw and the green of hay are our own. Color names are plain English words with no paint maker, pencil brand or color-matching system, and one word is one code everywhere on this list. Checked on 2026-10-14: every code is #RRGGBB, each color word fits the hue and lightness of its code, no palette, name or line repeats, no two palettes share four codes, no two colors of a palette are closer than 8 in CIE Lab, and no palette is on another palette list of this site or of its sister sites. The hex codes are for a screen; with paint, pencils or markers, take the nearest color. Licence: own work

How it works

A farm color palette here is five colors of one small scene: a red barn with white trim, a field of straw and green, a big sky over the land, or a crate of produce.

Barn red, with white or gray

Every Barn strip holds barn red #952A23 and a white, a cream or a gray: trim, a silo, a roof. In Barn and pasture the walls are barn red, the trim white #FAF8F5 and the roof slate gray, with a green pasture under an azure sky.

Field, sky and produce

Field strips are four or more colors of the land: soil browns, straw yellows and crop greens. Sky strips read from the top of the sky down to the ground. Produce strips also name what holds the harvest, a crate, a basket or a cart, as in Market crate: tomato red #E8482C and orange.
