How this list was compiled: Own work, written for Draw This Next on 2026-10-14: palettes of five colors, each an outfit to draw, in four kinds (neutral base, one statement color, season pair, monochrome). Every palette, name, color word, hex code and garment is our own choice; nothing is sampled from a photograph, a collection or a forecast, and no designer, label, shop, magazine or color-matching system is named. The palettes are for a fashion drawing or a character, not advice on what anyone should wear, and the seasons name the weather an outfit is for, not a trend. How a strip is ordered: in Neutral base, One statement color and Season pair the largest piece comes first and each color is named for its garment; a Monochrome strip runs from its darkest color to its lightest. Our own tests, not a standard: a neutral here is a black or gray (an HSL saturation of 12 percent or less), a white (a lightness of 95 percent or more), a cream, beige, tan or brown (a hue from 18 to 56 degrees at a saturation of 60 percent or less) or a navy (a blue at a lightness of 24 percent or less); a Neutral base strip is four neutrals and then one accent at a saturation of 50 percent or more; a One statement color strip starts with its one strong color (a saturation of 55 percent or more at a lightness from 28 to 72 percent) and the other four are neutrals; a Season pair strip starts with two colors that are not neutrals and stand 30 degrees of hue or more apart, and holds two or more neutrals beside them; in a Monochrome strip each color is lighter than the one before (WCAG relative luminance, the formula at https://www.w3.org/WAI/WCAG21/Understanding/contrast-minimum.html) and the hues stay within 24 degrees of each other, or every step is a gray. The facts in the page copy, checked on 2026-10-14 against English Wikipedia (text under CC BY-SA 4.0): Color scheme, Achromatic, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_scheme#Achromatic (pure achromatic colors include black, white, all grays and beiges; near neutrals include browns, tans, pastels and darker colors); Monochrome, Color scheme, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monochrome#Color_scheme (a monochromatic color scheme comprises tones, tints and shades of a single hue; tints are achieved by adding white, shades by adding black, tones by adding gray). That an outfit is a base, a second color and an accent is our own way of building the list. Color names are plain English words with no paint maker, pencil brand or color-matching system, and one word is one code everywhere on this list. Checked on 2026-10-14: every code is #RRGGBB, each color word fits the hue and lightness of its code, no palette, name or line repeats, no two palettes share four codes, no two colors of a palette are closer than 8 in CIE Lab, and no palette is on another palette list of this site or of its sister sites. The hex codes are for a screen; with paint, pencils or markers, take the nearest color. Licence: own work

How it works

A fashion color palette here is built the way an outfit is: a base color for the largest piece, a second color, and one accent. Each strip is an outfit to draw, coat to scarf.

A base, a second and one accent

Neutral base strips are four neutrals with the largest piece first, then the accent: Belted trench is a camel #C39055 coat, cream sweater, navy trousers and brown boots with a red #DA1B28 scarf. One statement color strips turn that around: the strong color is the largest piece and four neutrals follow.

Season pairs and monochrome

A Season pair strip starts with two colors for a spring, summer, autumn or winter outfit and adds neutrals. A Monochrome strip is five steps of one hue from the darkest to the lightest: a monochromatic scheme is tones, tints and shades of a single hue.

Questions and answers

What colors are in a fashion color palette?

Mostly neutrals, with a little strong color. The neutrals here include black #161618, navy #19274D, camel, cream and gray; the accents include red, cobalt #1953C8, mustard, emerald and hot pink.

What is a good fashion color scheme?

One base, one second color and one accent. For a ready pair, try burnt orange with olive, mustard with burgundy, lilac with mint or cobalt with orange: each starts a Season pair strip.

What are neutral colors in fashion?

Wikipedia's color scheme article counts black, white, grays and beiges as achromatic, and browns, tans and darker colors as near neutrals. On this list a neutral is a black, white, gray, cream, beige, tan, brown or navy.
