How this list was compiled: Own work, written for Draw This Next on 2026-10-12: palettes of five muted colors built on mustard, teal, brick, faded denim and cream, sorted by the place they suggest (a coffee bar, a record shop, a bike workshop, a plant shelf). Every palette, name, color word, hex code and part is our own choice; nothing is sampled from a photograph, a shop or a product, no shop, drink, clothing or bicycle maker is named, and the page states no outside fact. What counts as hipster here is our own reading of the word as a look: muted mid-tones with warm neutrals. How a strip is ordered: each color is named for its part of one small scene, and the name carries two of the colors. Our own tests, not a standard: every color has an HSL saturation of 75 percent or less; every strip holds two or more of mustard, teal, brick, faded denim and cream; a Coffee bar strip holds a coffee brown (dark brown, walnut brown or caramel) with cream or oat; a Record shop strip holds black or charcoal with mustard or brick; a Bike workshop strip holds steel gray or silver with black or charcoal; a Plant shelf strip holds two or more of olive, sage green, fern green and forest green with terracotta, brick or rust; no two colors of a palette are closer than 8 in CIE Lab. Color names are plain English words with no paint maker, pencil brand or color-matching system, and one word is one code everywhere on this list. Checked on 2026-10-12: every code is #RRGGBB, each color word fits the hue and lightness of its code, no palette, name or line repeats, no two palettes share four codes, and no palette is on another palette list of this site or of its sister sites. The hex codes are for a screen; with paint, pencils or markers, take the nearest color. Licence: own work
How it works
A hipster color palette here is built on five colors: mustard, teal, brick, faded denim and cream. Coffee browns, grays and leaf greens fill in around them, and each strip is one small scene, such as a chalkboard menu.

Sorted by the place
The menu under the button keeps to one. Coffee bar strips hold a coffee brown with cream or oat. Record shop strips set mustard or brick against vinyl black or charcoal. Bike workshop strips add a metal gray and a dark for tires or grease. Plant shelf strips hold two greens and a clay color: terracotta, brick or rust.
Keep it muted
Nothing here is neon: no color goes over 75 percent saturation. Give one of the five the largest shape and cream or oat the background. For subjects, see aesthetic drawing ideas.
