How this list was compiled: Own work, written for Draw This Next on 2026-10-08: palettes of five colors read from money as an object, sorted by what they show (banknote greens; gold, silver and copper coins; ledger paper and ink; a vault and a safe). Every palette, name, color word, hex code and part is our own choice; no banknote or coin of any country is reproduced, sampled or measured, and "banknote green" is our own dull mid green, not the ink of a currency. How a strip is ordered: each color is named for its part; a ledger strip starts with its paper and a vault strip with its dark. The name carries two of the colors (on a vault strip, the metal and the dark it stands on). Our own tests, not a standard: a Banknote greens strip holds two or more greens and one dark color (an HSL lightness of 30 percent or less), most often the ink; a coin strip holds two or more of gold, pale gold, brass, silver, copper and bronze; a ledger strip starts with a light paper and holds an ink that contrasts with it by 4.5 to 1 or more; a vault strip starts with its darkest color, and its metal contrasts with that by 3 to 1 or more (the WCAG contrast ratio formula, https://www.w3.org/WAI/WCAG21/Understanding/contrast-minimum.html, used as our own threshold); no two colors of a palette are closer than 8 in CIE Lab; no two palettes share four codes. The one fact in the page copy, checked on 2026-10-08 against English Wikipedia, Greenback (1860s money), https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greenback_(1860s_money): greenbacks were emergency paper money that the United States issued in the Civil War, with green printing on the back; the reverse side of the Demand Notes of 1861 was printed in green ink, so they were dubbed greenbacks. Color names are plain English words with no paint maker, pencil brand or color-matching system, and one word is one code everywhere on this list. Checked on 2026-10-08: every code is #RRGGBB, each color word fits the hue and lightness of its code, no palette, name or line repeats, and no palette is on another palette list of this site or of its sister sites. The hex codes are for a screen; with paint or pencils, take the nearest color. Licence: own work
How it works
Each money color palette here is one small scene with a job for every color: bills in a paper band, three stacks of coins, a ledger page ruled in green, a brass dial on a safe door.

A money green color palette
Choose Banknote greens in the menu under the button. Every strip there holds two or more greens and one dark, most often the ink: Stack of bills is banknote green, sage green and dark green, in a cream paper band on a tan desk.
Money color schemes for coins, ledgers and vaults
A coin strip holds two or more coin metals, mostly gold #EBB514, silver #B7BDC3 and copper #CD652D, one flat color each. A ledger strip starts with its paper and adds the inks, often a red. A vault strip starts with its dark and names the metal on it: Safe dial is brass on black. For a metal in three steps, light to dark, see metallic color combinations.
Questions and answers
What colors are in a money color palette?
Green first: a dull mid green for the bill and a near-black green for its ink. Then the coin metals, gold, silver, copper and brass. Then white, cream and red for ledger paper and ink, and charcoal, black and navy for the vault.
What is the hex code for money green?
On this list banknote green is #5F8E57. Sage green #9EB992 is the same bill worn pale, and dark green #122616 is the ink. All three are our own codes; no real banknote is copied or sampled.
Why is money green?
In the United States the link is old: the emergency paper money issued during the American Civil War was printed in green on the back, and the notes were called greenbacks.
What colors go with money green?
The greens here stand beside cream, tan and brown, and take one bright at a time: Origami heart is banknote green and pink, Rubber-band roll sage green and red, Flying bill pale green and sky blue.
