How it works

Glow paint has to sit in light before it glows, and it fades as the night goes on. Each of these 48 no-carve pumpkins is planned twice: how it looks by day and what is left in the dark.

Two looks on one pumpkin

Every detail line gives the day colors, the parts in glow paint and what shows when the porch light is off. Most of Outlines only is drawn in thin glow lines: Haunted house drawn in single glow lines. Skeletons and bones glows as bones with no pumpkin round them.

Glow paint is not blacklight paint

Glow-in-the-dark paint is phosphorescent: light charges it, and it goes on glowing, typically pale green, once the light is gone. Fluorescent paint needs a blacklight to show. A pumpkin painted from this list is a decoration and is not eaten.

Questions and answers

What are some glow in the dark paint pumpkin ideas for a porch?

Pick ones that read from the street: Wide grin whose teeth alone light up, Glowing eyes only, the rest of the face in black, and House number outlined so the porch shows at night.

Why did my pumpkin stop glowing?

Glow paint fades after the light is gone, sometimes within a few minutes and sometimes over a few hours. Bright light charges it again. How long yours lasts is on its label.

Do I need a blacklight?

Not for glow-in-the-dark paint, which glows by itself after sitting in light. Fluorescent paint is the kind that needs a blacklight, and these designs are written for glow paint.

Can a design stay hidden until dark?

That depends on the paint: how clear a glow paint dries is on its label. A few designs use glow paint alone on bare orange, with no color under it, such as Cat outline in glow paint alone on a bare orange pumpkin.
